12 Ways To Create The Perfect Outdoor Wedding

Outdoor weddings are stunning and no indoor wedding decorator can replace a beautiful natural backdrop.  If you’re going to perform an outdoor ceremony and/or reception, there are a few things you need to consider.  While you can’t control the weather on your wedding day, you can control the day’s events and prepare your wedding for anything to come.  By heeding these 11 pieces of advice, you are well on your way to creating the perfect outdoor wedding:

1.  Find Some Privacy

An outdoor location might seem magical until you realize it’s beside a noisy main road or between a busy beachfront.  Before you book the venue, stroll through the grounds to make sure you’ll get the privacy you deserve.  It’s your wedding day and no honking horn or runaway beach ball should disturb you.

2.  Think Seasonally

Nothing is prettier than embracing Mother Nature’s elements at your wedding.  Find out what’s in season around your big day and incorporate that into your theme and decorations.  Imagine cherry blossoms blooming in the background or colorful red, yellow, and orange fall leaves scattered across the lawn as you walk up to the aisle.  As for manmade objects, you can practically find anything today – candles, tablecloths, chairs, and lanterns – in whatever colors you want.  We can even customize our famous 18” Airless Confetti Launchers in seasonal colors too!

3.  Stave Off The Sun

A sunny blue-sky wedding day is every girl’s dream, except when that sun is beating down on your guests or in their eyes.   Take a look at the ceremony grounds before your wedding day to determine the ideal direction for your guests so the sun is at their back, not in their eyes.  Offer water or other cool dinks during the event if it’s too hot.  A few refreshments can make all the difference in the world.

4.  Wave Off Windy Weather

You have to consider potential wind issues too, but don’t fear!  Your stylist should be able to create the perfect hairdo to fend off any light breeze.  And with a few heat lamps or a light blanket on each seat, your guests will be warm enough to handle any cool wind.

5.  Throw Cool Confetti

Confetti is a great way to cap off a wedding exit, whether it’s the newlyweds exiting the ceremony or bidding them farewell after the last dance.  For an outdoor wedding you can’t just throw any confetti, you have to throw Flutter FETTI.  If floats, flutters and flies in the air longer than any other confetti and the tissue is 100% biodegradable too.  That means less mess and more fun!  Try 6” Wedding Confetti Launchers or 14” Flutter FETTI Confetti Sticks filled with all-white tissue confetti.

6.  Remember Wood Is Good

Whether you’re in the forest or on the beach, it’s well-known that wooden objects appear to blend in better with nature.  Those flimsy plastic chairs and metal lantern poles portray such a different vibe as if you’re forcing an indoor wedding outside.  If you can make it happen, use as much wooden material as possible, including with the chairs, chuppah, and flowerpots, and let nature do the rest.

7.  Find Fancy Fly Traps

Those pesky mosquitoes and other flying insects are a real nuisance.  Giving your guests fly swatters is so tacky, but bordering your outdoor ceremony area with citronella candles or hanging snazzy bug zappers from the trees will solve that problem in a nice way.  Plus, they smell and look good too!

8.  Be Lured By Lanterns

If your outdoor wedding has draping trees, consider hanging and stringing beautiful lanterns from the branches.  If you’re on the beach, tiki torches or luminarias will do the trick.  Either way, lanterns not only help create an intimate atmosphere, but they also help guide guests to the party when the ceremony runs a bit late!

9.  Fire It Up

The best part about being outdoors is there’s no ceiling – just endless blue or starry night skies above you!  If your local authorities allow it, consider giving your guests (and yourselves of course) a private fireworks display.  Talk about memories that last a lifetime!  If fireworks aren’t an option, we have an equally fun high-flying alternative:  give your guests some 18" Airless Confetti Launchers with custom colored tissue FETTI which shoot up to 20 feet in the air!  Lastly, you can consider doing a bonfire for roasting marshmallows and keeping warm.

10.  Surround Your Sound

Sound doesn’t carry as well outdoors as it does indoors, so you’ll need a decent system to make sure everyone can hear.  You’ll also want to disguise those big ugly black speakers so they don’t ruin the natural aesthetics either.  Try hiding them in the trees or putting flowers around them to make them less conspicuous.

11.  Wear The Right Shoes

Those incredible 4-inch heels might look gorgeous on your feet, but they look silly as you stuck in the ground and walk awkwardly to the outdoor altar.  Pick up a pretty pair of kitten heels or flat-toed shoes for the ceremony and then slip into something sexier when you finally reach the dance floor.

12.  Pitch A Tent

A large outdoor tent can be used for the ceremony, the reception, or both.  Tents help you block out potential rain and can prevent the wind, heat, and cold air from ruining your big day too.  Large white wedding tents also have that aura around them that signify a classy, well-organized event and that’s just the type of outdoor wedding event everyone wants to attend.
